  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cherry jam
  • 2 cups whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk, and mix until combined.
  4. Fill each cupcake liner about halfway with the batter and bake for 18-20 minutes.
  5. Once cooled, cut a small cone out of the top of each cupcake and fill with cherry jam.
  6. Replace the top and pipe whipped cream on top to resemble a bite.

Notes

  • For a more dramatic effect, drizzle chocolate ganache over the whipped cream.
  • You can use any jam or filling for the ‘blood’.
